Gravel driveway repair puts a worn drive back to a firm, even surface. We cut the old stone loose, reshape the base and pull the crown back down the middle. New gravel goes on where the surface has thinned. Water then sheds to the edges instead of standing in the wheel tracks.

We start with what is under the stone. A drive with a firm base needs the surface cut loose and reshaped. A drive that has pumped clay up through the rock needs more than a fresh load. The repair has to match what the ground is doing.
On most drives the skid steer cuts the old surface loose and pulls it across the low spots. Potholes and ruts fill with that material instead of getting a patch on top. The blade then works the full width until the drive is even again. Loose stone gets packed back down so it stays put.
Then the crown goes back in. The middle rides a little higher than the edges, so rain runs off instead of pooling. Grade lasers keep the fall steady from one end of the drive to the other. Stone comes to the site by the load, and we spread it over the base and pack it in.
Gravel does not leave a drive on its own. Water moves it. The ground around Woodlawn is Highland Rim clay, and it holds water instead of taking it in. Add close to 50 inches of rain a year and a flat drive stays wet.
So the ditches come first. The excavator reopens the ditch line along the drive and cuts a path for runoff to leave. Where water crosses under the entrance, the pipe gets cleaned out or reset so it flows. A blocked pipe backs water onto the drive and cuts the entrance out.
Water standing in the yard is a different job. If it sits against the house, that is yard drainage work. On the drive itself, the crown and the ditches handle it. Get those two right and the new stone stays where you put it.
Most drives only need the top fixed. The base is still firm, the shape is off and the stone has thinned in the tracks. Cutting that surface loose, re-crowning it and adding new gravel puts the drive back in service.
Some drives are past that. When clay has pumped up through the rock, the base is gone and fresh stone sinks in. There the excavator digs the soft spots out and fabric goes over the wet clay. Coarse rock rebuilds the base, and the fabric keeps the new stone out of the mud.
